Humans have evolved significantly since our long-forgotten cave dwelling days. But, one truth about life remains constant. Life is harsh and competitive. That is just the way it is. The better you are at remembering this truth the more successful you will be and the less frustration you will face. If you want something, you have to take it before someone else gets it. Don’t expect anyone else to show you any mercy.
If You Fail to Compete You Don’t Eat
When you lose sight of the fact life is by nature harsh and competitive you become soft. You start to lose your edge. We still live in a “you eat what you kill world”. If you get lulled into complacency because you have a lot of social media “friends” or because you expect someone else to provide for you, you are setting yourself up for a rude awakening. At some point things will get bad and you won’t have to skills to keep up with your competitors. They will be out taking all the great opportunities that you weren’t agile enough to seize. You will then realize that if you fail to compete you fail to eat.
Don’t let your enemies make you soft. If you understand that life is harsh, you will learn to be wary of comfort and unwilling to take the easy way out. You will know that you need to keep your instincts sharp if you are to not only survive, but to thrive, in this competitive world.
Nothing is Free. You Have to Work and Take What You Need and Want
The biggest danger you will face is not the monsters you have to slay. The biggest threats to your safety and success are the easy things. When you are facing a known danger you keep your wits about you. You are focused on victory. But, when things get easy, you let your guard down. It is during these times that your enemies who have grown jealous of your success will strike. You are at your most vulnerable when you are resting.
Nothing worth having comes free or cheap. You have to work to get the things that matter most in this life. You should view shortcuts and free guarantees with suspicion and revulsion. These things are traps to the unwary.
Even though we have microwaves and wifi, we are still cavemen at heart. We are hunters. The only way to show our tribe we are fit to belong is to earn our keep. The sooner that you understand how harsh and competitive life is, the more likely you will be prepared to do what it takes to succeed.
Let your competitors waste their precious energy chasing the latest easy trends. You need to focus on the true path to success. It is narrow and dangerous. It is tough. But, it is also the only way to find the ultimate prize.
Are you up to the challenge?
